Some of the 1938 graduates are in the following pictures and/or write-ups.
Carrol Wesley Barnard.
Carrol Wesley Barnard was born on 1/26/21 to the parents of John W. and Ina Mae Barnard. They lived on a small farm located on the Ceralvo Road. The family consisted of five boys and one girl In the time frame of 1930, the eldest child was a boy, Paul W., and then James L., William K., Carrol W., Everette B. and a daughter Wanda D., with ages running from fourteen to three. William, a twin of Carrol's died before he became a teenager. Carrol W. graduated from Rockport High School in 1938 and attended college the next year. By then, the family had moved to Rockport.
Finding work and a career in the Ohio County, in the mid-twentieth century, was a problem a lot of students faced after graduating from high school and Carrol was no exception. After a year of college, he found work in Summit, Ohio and moved there in the time frame of 1940 and that lasted until Carrol was drafted into the Army on 9/23/42. Carrol made rank as a sergeant before he was discharged, but decided to get out and try civilian life. He married Ella Clara Johns in 1945 and they moved to Beaver Dam where he attended college in Bowling Green. I do not know if he received a degree from Western Kentucky State Teachers College in Bowling Green, KY. After college John and family found work in Western Kentucky and he and family moved to Mayfield, Kentucky where he and his wife raised a family of two boys and three girls. He moved to Fulton, KY for his retirement years and died in Fulton on 12/16/12 at an age of 91. He and his wife are buried in Fulton.
Thanks Carrol for your service to our country.
