History of Echols General Baptist Church by Betty Ford.
The first Church was located about 2 miles south of the present location, on the
Echols--Hopewell Road. Before that, services were held at the home of Reece Curtis.
There was a gathering to establish the Church in September 1921, and the building
foundation was started in late 1921. The first service was held the second Saturday
night in May, 1922. In 1941, it was decided to move the Church to the present location.
It was built and the Church was dedicated the second Sunday in June, 1942; That date
each year is the annual homecoming. In 1960, the basement was added. In 1970, the
Church was bricked. Another important thing the Church saw was the addition of the
heating and cooling system. The fellowship hall was built in 1998-99. An
addition was built in 2002, and a baptistery was added.
The church has seen many wonderful Deacons; Sunday School Teachers; and Pastors,
but all members have been and are special. We thank the good Lord for blessing
Echols General Baptist Church for all there many years.
We say, "May God bless you". You are always welcome at Echols General Baptist Church.
