~~ Wendell Shull ~~
The following write-up was sent
to me from Wendell. Thanks Wendell for the info and for your service to our country.
My name is Wendell L.
Shull, and I was born in Echols, Kentucky on April 23, 1932. I was born at home
which was just beyond the Pond Run Church on top the hill. . This is where I spend
most of my first 16 years. During the 1949 and 50 years I worked at the Kentucky
Theatre for Andy Anderson. I think I learned more from him than all my High School
Years. During my early years, my only thought was going to Michigan for a job. My
Dad convinced me that I had to be 18 to get a job, so I stayed home and finished school.
In January 1952, I was drafted into the USMC and spent my two years in California.
My MOS (Military Occupation Specialty) was 0111 which was a (classification clerk)
typing orders at the Marine Barracks. My wife and I lived in Government Housing and
it was just like a job. When I was released we returned to Michigan, but jobs were
not to be had so I had a hard time for a few months. Later, with some help, I went
to work for Chevrolet Engineering in the "Experiential Garage" as a Mechanic retiring
after 27 years. We have three children, and 7 grand children, with 4 great grandchildren.
Have been married to the wonderful woman, Dorothy for 62 years and holding. Our e-mail
name came from our names of dorwens.
We have been in all 50 states, Mexico, Canada, England, Scotland and Wales, the
Panama Canal and lots of places. I don't want to forget a story that happened when
I was in the 8th grade at Rockport. It was in the Fall time of the year and one of
the other boys would bring in a dressed possum and we would go to downtown Rockport
and sell it. I cannot remember for sure which boy it was, just that he was a buddy
of mine. You must be tired of reading this so will sign off for now. We still get
to Ohio County a couple times a year...........wendell
:)
See you..........
