The following paragraphs about T. Carl Fulkerson and his photograph were taken from "Our Heroes Forever" booklet that was composed by Shirley Fulkerson Barnes and Delona Smiley Fulkerson. "Our Heroes Forever" is a Pond Run Baptist Church production in honor of the local heroes of the Armed Forces. The actual production date of the pamphlet is unknown to me, but would guess it to be in the time frame of 2002. Thanks you two.

Thomas Carl Fulkerson enlisted in the U. S. Army June 1941. He was assigned to the 4th Cavalry which became a part of the 38th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron. He trained at Fort Maxey, TX before sailing to Europe aboard the "Queen Mary". On 12 June 1944 he debarked on Omaha Beach. He was wounded during hedgerow combat in Normandy. On 25 August 1944 he was with the first American troop to enter Paris. PFC Fulkerson was one of the General Eisenhower's guards at Napoleon's Tomb. During the Battle of the Bulge he was assigned to the Monschau sector near the Siegfried Line. He was wounded a second time when a hotel exploded in Neiderbronn, France. In October 1945 he was discharged. He received 2 Purple Hearts.

Thomas Carl Fulkerson married Lorene Robinson. They live on Fulkerson Road, Beaver Dam, KY. Carl and Lorene have 4 children and 10 grandchildren; Shirley, her husband Malcolm Barnes and 2 sons, of Chiggerville Lane, Beaver Dam; James, his wife Susan and 3 children of Hartford; Robert, his wife Delona and 2 sons of Fulkerson Road, Beaver Dam; Glenn, his wife Kimberly and 3 daughters of Jefferson City, MO.

Purple Heart

I met Carl for the first time when he started to work for TVA at the Paradise Steam Plant. I worked with Carl, at times, until I transferred to the Beaver Dam, KY field office in 1976. After that, I would see him on occasion near his home. He would be walking to get in some exercise and I had air monitoring equipment located in the vicinity of his house. Then, even after that, I would run into him and his wife at Wal-Mart. If there ever was a nicer man, I have not met him. Carl died recently and Ohio County has lost a very good man.

Thanks Carl for your service to our country.

See you.........
