William Earl Jones.
Picture and write-up of Bill was provided by June May. Thanks June.
Bill Jones graduated from Rockport in 1944.
William Earl was the oldest of the Jones children. William was drafted and entered
the Army immediately after graduation. He did go abroad, however, he did not discuss
this matter. During the Korean War, he re-enlisted. He did go abroad again, and
once more, he did not discuss the matter. He served in both World War II and the
Korean War, and returned back to Ohio County as a hero.
After the Korean War was over, Bill returned to Ohio County and became an electrician.
He married Colleen Shultz. They had four children. He was very active in church
and Union matters. He died in Dec., 1997.
Space reserved for a picture and write-up of a future hero. Any information and a
picture from any of you reading this could be used in this space. Feel free to send
any picture of your hero and a short write-up to either me or Hilma and we will take
care of the rest. You picture will be guarded, as much as we can provide that service,
and returned to you. Thanks and hope you will help us complete this and the other
series. We would like a hundred percent participation. We would settle for about
ninety-five percent.
George Boyd.
George William Boyd is a 1940 graduate of Rockport High School. Soon after graduating
from high school George Boyd was inducted into the U. S. Army Air Force, seeing
service in the European Theater of the War. George was assigned to a "Bomber Group"
as a Radio Operator/Tail Gunner on a B-24 Bomber. George enjoyed England, but like
most of us from the Rockport Area, he was glad to get back home. As the war came to
an end, George was discharged and found employment in Michigan City. The country was
enjoying the peace after the war years and times were good.
George married Juanita Stewart and settled in Michigan City. The Michigan City area
had a lot to offer, but it was just not home. They were just not satisfied and began
to look at other locations to raise a family. Eventually, they were able to return
to the local area and raised a son and a daughter.
The retirement years in Madisonville, KY are now a pleasure for the couple, finding
pleasure with their children and grandchildren while enjoyment with church and friends
and related activities. Their son lives in Florida. They always find time to travel
to see him, and the lovely weather, when winter comes to Kentucky.
