Dorothy Crunk.

Picture of Dorothy is from the 1951 Year Book. Will replace with a later picture if one becomes available..

Dorothy Crunk went to Louisville soon after graduation. She married a local man and ended up living just across the river from Louisville. Most of her work career consisted of working for a doctor. Have been told that she still is working. She lost her husband several years back and is now a widow.

Shirley Danks.

Picture of Claudis and Shirley was taken by Harold Welborn at Harold's winter home in Arizona.

Shirley Danks graduated from Rockport High School at a very young age and enrolled at Western Kentucky State Teachers College (Now Western Kentucky State University). She taught school at Rockport while working on her teaching degree. She was teaching while still in the teens and by taking night and summer courses was able to get a BS degree in Elementary Education. In the meantime she married Claudis Alexander and they made their move to Louisville. I think that Shirley was an Elementary School Teacher in Louisville. There are some children, but I am not sure on how many. I think that they have a son and a daughter. After retirement, they left Louisville and became travelers. They purchased a motor home and enjoy their winters in New Mexico, Arizona and Florida. In the Summer, they usually visit back in Kentucky and other points of interest. Sounds like retirement life has been good to them.

June Fulkerson.

Would prefer a more recent picture of June, but so far none have surfaced. Will use this "Year Book" picture for the time being.

When June Fulkerson graduated from High School in 1951, the big General Electric Plant in Owensboro was in full force making vacuum tubes and June, like a lot of her fellow graduates, started working in Owensboro for G. E. She car pooled daily to and from her work. She married a Mr. Duncan and they made their home in Hartford, Kentucky. There were no children from this marriage. June is deceased.

Wilma Garrett.

Picture of Wilma is from the 1951 Year Book. Prefer a more recent picture and will replace if one becomes available.

Need info about Wilma. Last record of Wilma was that she lived somewhere in Tennessee.

Betty Knight.

Betty Knight was born February 22, 1933, near Enis, Kentucky, in Muhlenberg County. She entered school at Oakland at the age of seven and entered Rockport in the third grade. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Perry W. Knight. After graduation, she was undecided about her choice of a career. As you can see, information on Betty is not available. Any information and/or another picture would be appreciated. The picture being used is from the 1951 Year Book. Any later day picture preferred.

Jonell McCoy

An older picture of Jonell with Patsy Bastin. Will replace if I can find another.

After graduation from Rockport High School, Jonell married Jimmy Harris. This marriage produced three sons. Her husband, Jimmy, died some twenty years ago and Jonell married Kenneth McClanahan. They were married for sixteen years before he passed away. From this marriage there was a step-son. Grandchildren now total eight.

Jonell's dream since high school was to become a nurse. Being a housewife and raising a family did not stop her from realizing her dream. Studying on a part time basis and attending Nursing School in Owensboro, she became a LPN and went to work at the Ohio County Hospital. At this writing, she is still working part time as a LPN. Lead on Jonell.

"The Tiger"

The Tiger was selected as a mascot for the Rockport High School. It was a mascot before the new high school was built, serving as a mascot for the old high school at the end of Bluff Street. Pete Mason and Thelma Tooley's class of 1931 selected the Tiger as a mascot and Purple and Gold for the school colors.

Basketball was the major sport and about the only school sanctioned sport, or at least the only one where uniforms were furnished. Of course, in those days, the basketball uniform was a short-cut pair of shorts with a sleeveless type top. Those uniforms would look quite skimpy nowadays, but at least the leg part of the shorts did not come down to ones ankles. In the fifties, the uniforms were gold with either white or purple trim. A white color was used with the "Purple and Gold" and over the years, there were many combinations. Uniforms were not bought every year. Thus, a new uniform was expected to last a few years. Prior to the fifties, the tennis shoe was black and made of leather. In the early fifties, Converse Shoe company offered Rockport a new type shoe. The new type shoe was a white, high-top, and made of a canvas type material. To my knowledge the 1954 Basketball Team was the first team with the new White Converse, Canvas Tennis Shoe. With the new shoe, most of us thought that we could almost fly. To own and wear a pair of Converse High-top Shoes and match that up with a Gold, "Slick and Shiny", RHS uniform with Purple Numbers was the ultimate. Ahhhhh, "Memories".

Wishing you all a great day.

See you......
