Greetings All. As you start comparing names with students, please note that row 2 is a short row. Using that info, things work out much better. This is a fine looking bunch of students. I am thinking that this is the 1933 Rockport High School Graduation Class. That being the case, these students started school in August of 1932 in the school building on Bluff Street. In January of 1933, on a Thursday, this school building burned to the ground. School was called off the following day, but resumed on Monday of the next week. The students were assigned classrooms in various buildings in Rockport. These buildings were mostly public buildings, although it was reported that one class was held in a town saloon. Luck was not with this bunch, as just a short time later, an entire block of buildings in Rockport burned and some of these buildings were being used for class rooms. Once again, some of the students were moved. Professor Guy Schenk was the principal at the time and I would imagine that he earned his salary that year.

My thanks to Harold Welborn for providing the picture and the pupil identities. I had used the picture in an earlier stat, but did not have the student identity information. After placing a "Please Help" request, Harold supplied the needed information.

Guy Schenk was the principal and Gilbert Lamb was the assistant principal at Rockport in 1933. Both were also teachers and I am thinking that Corbet Farris, J. W. Park, Mrs. Gerry Barnes, and Miss Flossie Wilson were also teachers.

The Graduating Seniors in 1933 were Melborn Everly, Helen Hicks, Leslie Hopper, Edmund Park, Margaret E. Mallory, Willie Lee Swain, and Jane Woodburn. Way to go students, for graduating under such adverse conditions.

Thanks also, to Shirley Watson Smith. I used her book, "History Of Rockport and Echols" as a reference for times and dates. This source of information makes writing these few paragraphs much easier.

Hope you enjoyed

See you........
