Rockport High School
Class of 1936.

Web Page by jrd on 4/2/18.

Good Morning
Rockport High School-1936.

The Rockport High School Class of 1936 had fourteen students to receive their high school diploma. Job well done in trying times. Those that graduated help make the town of Rockport and the State of Kentucky a better place to live. Listed below is an alphabetic list of the graduates and any information that I know about each graduate. My knowledge and information is very limited, thus if you see something that is not quite right or have some other input, pleas contact me. I can work with you to make this a better page. Thanks.

 1. Neal Bratcher. I am drawing a blank on Neal. Help please.

 2. Patrick M. Chancellor. Another blank. Finis Chancellor and his wife lived a long life in Rockport and W. A.'s dad and mother lived on Ceralvo Road. Patrick was probably kin to them.

 3. Edith M. Elmore. Three in a row blanks. Have no information on Edith.

 4. Morene Everly. Morene was born and raised in the Ceralvo area. She was a sister to Truman Everly. A few years after Morene graduated, she married a 1948 Rockport High School Graduate. She and Fred Grant were married and moved to Louisville. Fred became a barber and some years later opened his own barber shop, Grant's Barber Shop, in Louisville. This marriage continued for 66 years and until Fred passed away on November 19, 2007. After retirement from the barber shop, Fred and Morene moved to Owensboro where they made their retirement home. This marriage produced five children, 13 grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren. Click on the following link for a picture of Morene as well as more information.

 5. James W. Gray. No information available. Information appreciated.

 6. Everett C. Hendricks No information on Everett.

 7. Hershal T. Kimmel. No information.

 8. Harry Pullman. No information.

 9. Martha Reid. I should know or know of Martha Reid. I think that Martha Reid was a sister to James J. Reid, but I may be off track here. Some of you have more knowledge on this subject than I and would appreciate any input. Thanks in advance.

 10. Lenalda Swain. Again, I do not have much knowledge on Lenalda Swain. I would guess that she was the daughter of Bob Swain, but strictly guessing.

 11. Marion Tilford. No information available.

 12. William Tooley. Ah, William, "Bill" Tooley. I can see him now and I and a lot of Rockport youths in the fifties and sixties spent a lot of time around and with Bill. He was liked by all and could converse with those under ten as well as those well into their senior years. He always seem to have a smile on his face and was just a good guy that the youth lived and enjoyed being around.

Bill entered the Army just out of high school. Don't know if he was drafted or volunteered. Bill enjoyed life and reenlisted in the Army with intentions of making the Army his career. After seven years of so, he changed his mind and was discharged. His second career of being a teacher was now in the making. With the GI Bill helping with his college expensed, Bill entered Western Kentucky State Teacher's College and became a teacher at Rockport High School, his alma mater. He started teaching while in college and continued for a few years after graduating, but this career was not for Bill and he tried a new venture.

Bill had married Irene Fleener and a growing family was already in the making when Bill and Irene decided to get into the restaurant business. The family now consisted of four children and they moved into the house just to the West of the concrete block building that now houses the Post Office. They reopened the old "Green Lantern" restaurant and had a thriving business until Bill became sick. Bill died in 1977 as a relatively young age. He was missed by all.

 13. Ellen Mae Woodburn. I did not know Ellen Woodburn.

 14. Marion E. Woodburn. I would suspect that Marion and Ellen were siblings from the Echols community, but have no information on this matter.

See you.....
