This graduating class ascended upon the
area in which jobs were few and the USA was still in the recovery stage of the "Great
Depression". With proper "Erosion Control" in the Western states, the "Battle of
the Dust Bowl" was being won and the worst job market in US history was slowly being
reversed. President Roosevelt, with his ideas and government programs, was about to
lead this country back to times where jobs were available, even if most of the jobs
were being created by the government. In the meantime, Hitler had taken over the
German Army and appointed the leaders that he needed so he could continue his march
toward a German domination of the World. Nazi Germany, being completely controlled
by Hitler, was invading countries like Belgium and Czechoslovakia and annexing those
countries to become part of the German Empire. Not to be outdone, Mussolini was
getting stronger in Italy and has started his reign of terror. Japan invades
China and the last year of the thirties is becoming a year of war. These three
countries, Japan, Italy, and Germany will soon join forces and become known as
the "Axis" and eventually the US must enter the conflict. The United States and
England, along with other European Countries and related parts of the world, will
join forces to oppose the invasion of any country by the "Axis". The new
combines forces, were to be called "The Allies Of World War II" and all were brought
together in 1939 to oppose the Axis Powers. And not much later, after these 1938
Rockport High School Graduates received their diplomas, World War II started.
